Bowman’s Hill Spring Wildflower Gala 2016
“You belong among the wildflowers
You belong in a boat out at sea
You belong with your love on your arm
You belong somewhere you feel free”
One of the harbingers of Spring in Bucks County is the annual Wildflower Gala at Bowman’s Hill Wildflower Preserve in Washington Crossing, PA. We love seeing our friends and neighbors showing out in their black tie, gowns and muck boots for this unique event. Like the wildflowers we come to celebrate, our community always shows a combination of grit and grace. The spectacular Gala event is the result of a lot of hard work by a lot of talented and committed people
The Bowman’s Hill Wildflower Gala was started 13 years ago as a fundraiser for the preserve. It was the brainchild of Naudain Sellers, Millena Coffey, and Sandy Ryon. These three ladies came up with the idea to raise money to benefit the preserve and its educational programs. What started as really small gathering has eventually became the biggest party in Bucks County. The gala takes place on the last weekend in April in order to coincide with at the height of the Spring ephemeral wildflower bloom at the Wildflower preserve. Executive Director Miles Arnott describes the unique beauty of this time of the year: “There are Virginia bluebell, and bloodroot and twinleaf and trilliums and this plethora of wildflowers carpeting the forest floor here during that time.”
It is characteristic of our local community (including Bucks, Hunterdon and Mercer Counties) that something wild would become such a focus of culture and art. The gala has attracted such notable local artists such as Chef Max Hansen and Rusty Thomas of Rusty Thomas Designs who have collaborated together on this event for more than nine years. Inspired by the wild beauty and bountiful resources of our river valley, Max and Rusty continue to redefine Bucks County style and hospitality.
As beautiful as the following photographs are, they pale in comparison to the experience of walking through the woodpaths of the preserve, discovering new flora at every turn. Come show your support for this remarkable community resource and enjoy an evening of fine food and good conversation with friends and neighbors. To purchase tickets or for other information, please contact Angela Jacobsen at (215) 862-2924, ext. 105. or visit the Bowman’s Hill Wildflower Site. See you at the Gala!
